It’s been a very long time since the last blog post! In this time the Mums Support Network home base of Durban has been coming back to life slowly following Covid, riots and floods… it’s been a big load to deal with, on top of the daily stresses we have to endure as mothers.
Anyway, here we are again, and this year has brought some exciting changes! New meetings, volunteers, WhatsApp groups, venues and more means that we are managing to reach more mothers looking for support.
Although Mums Support Network is a Durban-based organisation, we are acutely aware of the need for this type of support across South Africa. We are desperately trying to expand into as many provinces as we can, providing as many mental health support services as we are able. What does this kind of expansion need to succeed? – Volunteers. Mothers who are willing to give up a little time to assist fellow mothers within their communities.
Of course, there is a reason why I’m mentioning this! If you are a mother yourself and you feel like you’re in the position to spare some time to help… then please drop an email to alexandra@mumsupport.co.za. We are looking for volunteers to set up new support groups, as well as take over existing groups where the leaders have moved on. We’re talking in-person, online, even WhatsApp. We’d also love some help on the social media side from anyone who is more of an expert than we are (that’s not hard, we know next to nothing!) No experience or training is necessary; just an empathetic and non-judgemental ear, and the commitment to keep a space open in your diary (be that three hours a week or half an hour every two months, anything is better than nothing!) We’ll help you with the rest.
